Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Alvaro Morata and Arda Turan

Tom SunderlandJul 21, 2016

Arsenal could be set to miss out on a couple of high-profile targets from La Liga after the trails to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Barcelona winger Arda Turan reportedly went cold.

The Gunners' chances of landing Spain international Morata took a turn for the worse after the player professed his love for Los Blancos when speaking to the club's official website (h/t Metro's Sean Kearns).

Morata scored 12 goals for Juventus last season.

He said: "I have had two great years at Juventus, I learned a lot and I can only be thankful because without this experience I would not be here. It is incredible to be here again. It is a dream come true and I can’t wait to get started."

Morata was re-signed by Real this summer after the Spaniards triggered the €30 million (£25 million) buyback clause in his Juventus contract two years after he left the capital for Turin.

Despite Morata's apparent statement of loyalty, Spanish radio station Cadena Ser recently reported Premier League giants Chelsea had a £63 million bid for the striker turned down (h/t the Sun's Jamie Gordon).

Real seemed set to sell Morata on for a profit this summer after making full use of his buyback clause, but Metro's Chris Winterburn reported the forward could still remain with manager Zinedine Zidane's side:

Real's stance on Morata's future has also been influenced by the fact Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to miss the start of the 2016-17 season following his injury in the UEFA Euro 2016 final, per Spanish daily AS (h/t Eurosport).

Morata scored just 12 goals in 47 appearances for the Bianconeri last term and was often the third-choice striker for Juve, but David Cartlidge of beIN Sports has tipped the frontman for a big international future:

There's also unfortunate news emerging from the Camp Nou after Turan's agent came out and said there's been no approach from Arsenal for his client, who will remain in Catalonia despite rumours of an exit.

Ahmed Bulut spoke to Goal's Chris Wheatley and insisted Turan would remain with the Blaugrana despite a disappointing first season at the Camp Nou: "No, I haven't heard anything from Arsenal. Arda will be staying at Barcelona."

Turan has played the full 90 minutes for Barca on just five occasions.

The Gunners were linked with a move for the Turkey international, and Spanish newspaper Sport reported earlier this week that the player could be allowed to leave for just £20 million (h/t TalkSport).

The club have already brought in Granit Xhaka to the Emirates Stadium to beef up manager Arsene Wenger's midfield earlier this summer, but Turan could have provided a cost-effective option had Barca been happy to sell the misfit.
