Manchester United vs. Borussia Dortmund: 2016 ICC TV Schedule and Live Stream

Rory MarsdenJul 21, 2016

Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund kick off the 2016 International Champions Cup as they clash at China's Shanghai Stadium on Friday.

Both sides are likely to look a little different from the 2015-16 season after additions made during the current transfer window—and the fact that some players have still to return from their break after Euro 2016.

For United also, it is Jose Mourinho's first pre-season tour as Red Devils boss, and he will undoubtedly look to experiment to work out his best side ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Aside from a recent friendly with Wigan Athletic—which they won 2-0—Mourinho has had little time to see his new squad play outside of training.

That will all change in the ICC, during which United come up against a strong Dortmund side, as well as local rivals Manchester City.

Dortmund finished 10 points back from Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season but are one of the top sides in Europe, and a team United should look to be competing with again soon on the continental stage.

Ousmane Dembele could play a big part for manager Thomas Tuchel's side against United, the 19-year-old having already impressed during pre-season for BVB following his summer move from Rennes, per German football writer Cristian Nyari:

United themselves are set to field some of their new stars also, most significantly Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who recently sealed a move to Old Trafford from Dortmund.

New centre-back Eric Bailly is also part of Mourinho's squad in China, although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is absent from the group of 25, per United:

The Red Devils are a somewhat unpredictable outfit currently. Mourinho's tenure has hardly begun, but fans will be eager to see what system he implements ahead of the new Premier League season.

Former manager Louis van Gaal took major criticism over the last two terms for the boring style he implemented, but Mourinho is hardly likely to instill a much more attacking mindset among the side given his history.

Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe recently examined how Mourinho could set United up:

Against a side of Dortmund's quality, the Portuguese will look to field a strong team.

Meanwhile, Tuchel has an unfamiliar United to deal with, but he will be confident that his side can overcome the Premier League outfit.

He re-established Dortmund as a top side last season and is likely to push Bayern again in the Bundesliga race next term.

Friday's clash will be a good indicator of how both sides are progressing ahead of the new term, and it should be an entertaining game with huge amounts of quality on show.
