SUNNINGDALE, ENGLAND - JULY 26: Marco Dawson of United States is presented with the trophy by Arnaud Laborde, Rolex S.A, Golf Sponsorship after the final round of The Senior Open Championship played at the Old Course, Sunningdale Golf Club on July 26, 20

The American Dawson faces a stiff challenge if he wants to retain the Senior British Open title in the U.K.

A number of the field are in top form and have much more experience than himself at major events.

Home favourite Montgomerie showed at the recent British Open there's plenty of life left in him as he kept up with the younger new breed in top-class golf.

Monty needs just the Senior British title to complete a career Grand Slam of titles to add to the other three trophies that have resided in his possession.

He won the U.S. Senior PGA Championship and the U.S. Senior Open in 2014, and his form continues to be impressive.

The Scotsman placed third last year in the Senior Open Championship and has the tools of expression to improve his standings in 2016.

Dawson defeated tee-off partner Langer by one shot at Sunningdale last year at only his second appearance at the tournament.

The overall standard of the German and Jimenez will severely test the champion's ability to reproduce once again.

The charismatic Spaniard has continued to perform on the full tour and makes just his second appearance at the Senior British Open.

However, his vast experience will place him front and centre as one of the competition favourites.

Despite this being a tournament for the sport's elder statesmen, the standard of the field remains world class.

The presence of Watson and compatriot John Daly will add to the excitement of the weekend as fans get to see their heroes of yesterday.

Montgomerie is on a hot streak at present, and he is playing to an extraordinary level considering he is now 53.

Like Watson before him, he has proved he can maintain his confidence when on the tee and produce the accuracy to threaten a birdie at every hole.
