Bolton endured a tough campaign in 2015-16 as they were relegated from the Championship, but Holding garnered much individual praise and was voted the club's player of the season.
He made 26 league appearances—netting one goal—playing mainly at centre-back, and also at right-back, proving himself to be an excellent defensive operator and comfortable with the ball at his feet, per WhoScored.com.
Holding was also part of manager Gareth Southgate's England under-21 side that won the 2016 Toulon Tournament in May.
Per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe, Laurent Koscielny is currently the only undisputed choice in the centre-back pairing at Arsenal, with Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista regularly underperforming:
Holding's arrival at Arsenal will provide manager Arsene Wenger with another option in the middle of his back four, and the youngster should gain plenty of know-how from playing alongside Koscielny. He will also provide necessary back-up for Hector Bellerin at right-back.
Holding is still raw and has much to learn if he is to become a top-class Premier League defender in the long term.
However, he proved with Bolton that he has the basic skills to thrive at Arsenal and could become a key player in the future as part of the Gunners defence.
