Stoke Keen on Berahino
Tuesday, July 19
"We've put some bids in [for Berahino], and as it stands those haven't been accepted yet. But we're still hopeful on them," Hughes told Sky Sports News HQ.
Sky Sports News HQ provided footage of the comments while also reporting the value of Stoke's bid for Berahino at £20 million:
The 22-year-old recently turned down a new four-year deal with the Baggies as he is "keen on a new start" and has just one year remaining on his current contract at the Hawthorns, per Sky Sports News HQ.
Berahino has been unsettled at West Brom for some time and was denied a £25 million move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer, which prompted him to claim he would never play for Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace again, per David Hytner in the Guardian.
He was eventually reintegrated back into manager Tony Pulis' West Brom side and netted four goals in 31 Premier League appearances in 2015-16, per WhoScored.com.
However, his departure from the Midlands side now seems inevitable, and Albion will likely be keen to cash in on him with his contract running down.
Berahino's best season with West Brom was in 2014-15 when he netted 14 Premier League goals in 38 appearances, per WhoScored.
He looked to be heading for a first senior England cap—he was called up to the squad in November 2014 by then-Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson but did not play—but his progress has since halted as relations with West Brom have soured.
A move to Stoke could be the boost Berahino needs, and Hughes is clearly eager to add him to his squad to restart the forward's career momentum.
