The Basketball Tournament 2016: Scores and Bracket Results After July 17

Joseph ZuckerJul 17, 2016

What started with 64 teams is down to 16 following Sunday's action at the 2016 edition of The Basketball Tournament.

The remaining eight spots in the Super 16 were up for grabs in Chicago and Philadelphia over the weekend. The top half of the bracket was decided last week in Los Angeles and Charlotte, North Carolina.

The teams still in the tournament will head to Philadelphia for the Super 16, which is scheduled to begin July 21. In a little over two weeks, the last two squads standing will vie for the $2 million winner-takes-all championship.

The Cinderella runs for the 15th-seeded Canton Bulldogs and 16th-seeded Jackson TN UnderDawgs ended Sunday, setting the tone for the day as a whole. Only three of the eight games ended with the lower-seeded team advancing.

Two of the heavily favored sides in the bottom half of the bracket, Boeheim's Army and City of Gods, made it through.

Boeheim's Army got all they could handle from the North Broad Street Bullies, winning 86-82. Eric Devendorf led the way with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Rick Jackson also had a nice game, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds in 12 minutes on the floor.

Syracuse.com's Donna Ditota shared a Vine of Willie Deane adding his team's placard to the Super 16:

After the game, CJ Fair said he feels like he's back in college again, per Ditota: "I wasn't thinking about the money at the time. I thought about winning and closing the game out. It's like the NCAA tournament."

In the top half of the Northeast Regional, the Talladega Knights clawed their way back into the game shortly after halftime, but City of Gods eventually pulled away and collected a 94-85 victory.

The Knights had no answer for DerMarr Johnson, who shot 6-of-11 from beyond the arc en route to a 27-point game. Johnson nearly had a double-double, adding nine rebounds to his impressive performance.

In Chicago, the Bulldogs were the victims of Sunday's biggest blowout. Armored Athlete moved on following a 101-72 victory.

Armored Athlete connected on nearly 50 percent (32-of-66) of their field-goal attempts and shot an impressive 8-of-16 from three-point range. They also out-rebounded the Bulldogs 49-27. In addition, five Armored Athlete players scored in double figures.

David Dudzinski was the best of the bunch, scoring 18 points and getting nine rebounds. Isaiah Swann played well, too, scoring a game-high 22 points and dishing out two assists.

To the delight of basketball fans everywhere, Pedro's Posse remain in the hunt for the $2 million prize, which means at least one more game featuring Mike Bibby and Jason Williams in the same backcourt.

The Basketball Tournament's official Twitter account showed Bibby is still capable of beating his man off the dribble and getting to the basket:

Bibby (12 points, nine rebounds and four assists) and Williams (nine points, three rebounds and six assists) both were overshadowed by teammate Bryan Richardson, who posted a team-high 20 points.

While Sunday featured a number of talented teams, last year's champions, Overseas Elite, and runners-up, Team 23, are lurking in the Super 16 after punching their respective tickets. A rematch in the semifinals would be one of the most highly anticipated games in this year's tournament.
