Deontay Wilder to Honor the Late Muhammad Ali in Fight vs. Chris Arreola
Deontay Wilder will wear some extra special gear when he defends his WBC heavyweight title against Chris Arreola Saturday night in Birmingham, Alabama.
Wilder tweeted photos of shorts and a vest that include images of the late Muhammad Ali along with his famous "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" quote.
Wilder—a perfect 36-0—became heavyweight champion by defeating Bermane Stiverne on January 17, 2015—Ali's 73rd birthday.
Ali, a boxing legend, the GOAT, died in June. At the time, Wilder said, "People can emulate him, try to talk like him, but there will never be another man like him," per Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times.
He added, "When I won that title on his birthday, I sort of felt as if he was passing the torch for me to carry. As he leaves, I'm even more determined to keep that Ali legacy going to bring excitement to the heavyweight division."
Coverage for the fight kicks off at 8 p.m. ET.
