Man United vs Wolfsburg- Through My Eyes

Samrin HasibOct 2, 2009

The German Champions were taking on the English Champions. Maybe United would coast to a 3-1 win...hmmm. If the real Wolfsburg showed up, maybe they could play out a scoring draw or maybe even win...hmmm.

Wolfsburg started off strongly. In the Pokal, when I saw Christian Gentner playing, I felt he was really good. Maybe he could have finished off his side's first chance with a goal. Maybe he needed a certain Felix Magath yelling at him.

Twenty minutes gone and the scoreline was 0-0. Michael Owen was coming off and Berbatov coming on. I felt sorry for Owen. I wish he could have played more.  Berbatov arrived and Man United came alive.

Diego Benaglio's foot saved Wolfsburg from going a goal down while Gentner squandered another chance at the other end. Josue hobbled off the pitch. Wolfsburg are not the same side without the Brazilian. They got hammered 3-0 by Bayern without Josue.

Grafite was giving Vidic a hell of a time. I wish Van Persie could have done so in last season's semi. He was heavily guarded by the United defenders all night.

Josue came back after a while and I was relieved. Wolfsburg attacked at the end of the half, but once again, it came to nothing. The half ended 0-0.

The Wolfe came out with all guns blazing in the second half and Edin Dzeko duly outjumped Patrice Evra and connected with a Makoto Hasebe cross to open the scoring. The Japanese was energetic. I enjoyed his performance.

Prior to that, a Ricardo Costa volley went high and over. I thought that the volley could have been the opener and it really disappointed me. Sometimes, I missed Barzagli. After all, Italian defenders do score sometimes. I have seen Barzagli do it before, why not then?

After three minutes, a Josue foul led to a United freekick. Ryan Giggs stepped up to take it. Hmmm...interesting. Maybe he could do Wolfsburg a favour by blasting it wide. Instead United started riding their luck from then on. A wicked deflection of a Wolfsburg player sent the ball into the back of the net. Benaglio could do nothing about it.

United attacked and attacked and when the ball came to Carrick's foot, he sent it in for the winner. Wolfsburg had just ran out of luck. They didn't however stop attacking. They pressed on until the death and should have maybe grabbed an equalizer at the death.

When Obafemi Martins came on, I hoped he could do something. I hoped for something from Karim Ziani. I got absolutely nothing from Ziani and very little from Martins.

The image I have given maybe sums up Wolfsburg's night.

I didn't know how to feel after the match. I felt bad but, hey, at least Wolfsburg earned respect from the United fans and everyone else!
