Nelson Agholor Won't Be Charged with Sexual Assault: Latest Comments, Reaction

Joseph ZuckerJul 14, 2016

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced in a statement Monday that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor won't be charged with a crime after being accused of committing sexual assault at a Philadelphia strip club:

"

The District Attorney’s Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit and detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit thoroughly investigated the allegations of sexual assault against Nelson Agholor. As a result of this joint investigation, our staff and the Police reached the conclusion that we lacked sufficient evidence to bring charges against Mr. Agholor, therefore no charges will be filed.

"

The Philadelphia Daily NewsLes Bowen first reported the decision on July 14. NJ Advance Media's Mark Eckel indicated earlier on July 14 charges were unlikely to come. He spoke to a source who said, "The police, after their investigation, didn't feel there was enough to file charges."

David Gambacorta of Philadelphia magazine reported in June an exotic dancer at Cheerleaders Gentlemen’s Club said Agholor sexually assaulted her.

Eckel added an announcement from Williams could come Friday, but Williams' office refuted the claim, telling Eckel, "We are still investigating."

In June, NJ Advance Media's Eliot Shorr-Parks talked to a source who said Agholor and the dancer in question agreed to go back to a private room:

"

The person with knowledge of the incident said Agholor had agreed to pay the woman $1,400 for their time in the private room, but the dancer left before the agreed upon time and Agholor paid her $800. The person said the dancer wanted the full amount.

The dancer left the bar, was picked up by a friend, and the person said she never informed management of the alleged rape.

"

The same source told Shorr-Parks that multiple dancers spoke to the club's management in Agholor's defense and said he didn't commit the alleged assault.
