Manchester United Transfer News: Paul Pogba Addresses Red Devils Rumours

Rob BlanchetteJul 14, 2016

Paul Pogba has hinted he is open to a switch back to Manchester United in an interview in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The Juventus superstar refused to rule out a move to Old Trafford if coach Jose Mourinho wants him in due course.

The France international told ESPN in America that despite Juve being his "family," the Red Devils are his "first family," after representing United as a teenager (h/t Sachin Nakrani of the Guardian).

During the interview, the player was asked how he would react if the self-proclaimed Special One called to ask him to join United. Pogba replied: "I don’t know. Let’s see, let’s see. For the moment, I am here [Juventus] and I am happy here, but I don’t know where I want to go."

Here is a video of the player in action:

Nakrani reported United have been chasing the 23-year-old since Mourinho took control at the Theatre of Dreams and remain keen despite the Old Lady of Italian football slapping an £84 million valuation on Pogba's talents. Real Madrid have also coveted the player but are reportedly put off by Juve's mammoth valuation.

ESPN (h/t Nakrani) also asked Pogba about his feelings towards the Galacticos, and the player said: "They won the Champions League this year. They are a great club."

Nakrani wrote that Juve believe they can retain the midfielder, but United are willing to match their valuation to steal Pogba from Turin. The Frenchman has been handed a new contract offer from the Serie A champions in the hope of keeping him in Italy.

Pogba left United under a cloud in 2012 after former manager Sir Alex Ferguson refused to give him a starting place in his team. Pogba jumped ship to move to Juve and has since developed into one of the great burgeoning talents in world football.

The 23-year-old won his fourth Serie A title in a row last term, featuring 35 times in the top Italian division and scoring eight goals, according to WhoScored.com.

On Thursday, MailOnline also highlighted how Pogba had dined out in Los Angeles with new United signing Zlatan Ibrahimovich, with whom he shares an agent:

Pogba is the world-class youngster United fans missed out on seeing in red when it appeared he was ready to break into Ferguson's plans, and supporters have always wondered what might have been if he had remained at the club.

The player's signing would bring Mourinho's starting XI into direct competition for the Premier League crown, and an attacking connection between Pogba and Ibrahimovich would be inspirational and irresistible.

Mourinho must upgrade United's midfield after ex-coach Louis van Gaal relied on older and more conservative talents.

Pogba would light up the north-west if he arrives and would scare United's opponents on the domestic scene, as Antonio Conte takes the reins at Chelsea and Pep Guardiola begins his tenure at Manchester City.
