John Cena, Big Cass & Enzo Amore vs. the Club: WWE Battleground Winner, Reaction

The newly formed alliance of John Cena, Big Cass and Enzo Amore scored a huge victory Sunday night at WWE Battleground 2016, defeating The Club in a six-man tag team match.

It was a match where all six competitors emerged looking strong, as Adam Pacitti of What Culture highlighted:

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross provided his thoughts on the match:

Issues between Cena and The Club began on Memorial Day, when the 15-time world champion made his anticipated return from injury. AJ Styles greeted Cena and shook his hand, but it was merely a ruse, as Styles, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows proceeded to beat down the leader of Cenation.

The Phenomenal One then scored a victory over Cena in a singles match at Money in the Bank on June 19 with help from Anderson and Gallows.

The Club then continued its onslaught and created the "beat up John Cena" movement, as seen in this tweet courtesy of Styles:

With Cena outnumbered and seemingly hopeless in the weeks following Money in the Bank, Enzo and Cass stepped up to provide support for the face of WWE.

While Enzo and Cass revealed they would love to be in Cena's spot, they decided to take a stand against The Club in order to prevent the group from taking over WWE and running roughshod over the rest of the roster.

The addition of Enzo and Cass to the rivalry added intrigue and entertainment value, as their comedy meshed well with The Club, as evidenced by this Instagram post by Amore:

Provided there is still a plan in place for Cena and Styles to have another singles match against each other at SummerSlam on Aug. 21, the six-man tag match was effective in terms of continuing their feud while also keeping things fresh.

In addition to that, it placed Enzo and Cass in a top spot on the card for the first time since WWE called them up to the main roster.

When it comes to popularity and crowd reaction, Enzo and Cass are among the top acts WWE has to offer, and they acquitted themselves well in a match that involved two of the biggest stars in the business.

Along with the possibility of Cena vs. Styles continuing, the Battleground match set the stage for Enzo and Cass to potentially continue feuding with Anderson and Gallows should the creative team continue to hold off on putting them in the Tag Team Championship scene.

The primary school of thought entering Battleground was that Enzo or Cass would likely take the fall in order to give Styles another win while still protecting Cena, but that wasn't the case.

Cena's team came out on top, and while that doesn't necessarily even the series since Styles won a singles match, it gives plenty of reason for a rematch at SummerSlam, which would be among the event's marquee matches.
