Bundesliga Matchday Seven: Vedad Announces His Arrival in the Bundesliga

Samrin HasibOct 2, 2009

My round-up comes a day late as my Internet was out of order last night. Let me get started though:

When a club spends a lot of money to bring in big players as well as gets a new coach, better results are expected against the big sides. Once again, Bayern came up short against HSV, losing 1-0. Hamburg striker Mladen Petric scored the winner after excellent work by ex-Bayern star Ze Roberto.

Wolfsburg beat Hanover 4-2. It was good preparation for the biggest match in their Group in the CL away to Man United. Zvejdan Misimovic and Hanno Balitsch traded goals in the first half. Christian Gentner and Makoto Hasebe scored in the second half.

Alex Madlung put the ball into his own net but a superb goal by Edin Dzeko left the result in no doubt.

Hoffenheim snuffed the life out of Hertha. Vedad Ibisevic (finally) scored a hattrick. Raffael pulled one back. However after the break Chinedu Obasi added one and Carlos Eduardo added another from the spot to give Hoffe a 5-1 win over Hertha.

Stuttgart who needed a win badly beat Frankfurt 3-0. Julian Schieber, selected ahead of Pavel Pogrebnyak scored twice. Marco Russ was then sent off leaving Frankfurt a man down. A trademark Thomas Hitzlsperger freekick made the scoreline 3-0 in Stuttgart's favour.

Bremen outplayed Mainz, beating them 3-0. Aaron Hunt, deputizing for Mesut Ozil opened the scoring. Claudio Pizarro scored twice in the second half to round off the win.

Freiburg continued their good form in the Bundesliga with a 3-0 win over Gladbach. Mohammed Idrissou, Yacine Abdesadki and Julian Schuster were the scorers on the day.

Koln's short undefeated run ended againt Bayer. Leverkusen, who were clearly the dominant side had only one goal to show for their dominance which came via Simon Rolfes. Maniche got himself sent off for Koln, capping a disappointing night for his side.

On Friday, Bochum got a good 1-0 win away to Nuremberg. They beat the Bavarian men 1-0 thanks to a well-taken goal by Diego Klimowicz.

Bochum's win in the Ruhr didn't earn them much attention as the whole of the Ruhr area were concentrating on the big derby between Schalke and Dortmund. Schalke took the bragging rights away from Dortmund with a 1-0 win. Jefferson Farfan scored the only goal.

Hamburg and Bayer are tied at the top. Hoffenheim and Schalke follow the leaders while Werder sit in fifth position.

We have to wait and watch to see whether Bayern can bounce back next week against Koln. The last time they met, Koln beat the Bavarians 2-1!
