While a few top stars are either on the fence or have withdrawn completely, Rickie Fowler reaffirmed his commitment to play in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Fowler tweeted out Sunday he intends to make the trip to Rio de Janeiro for Team USA:

Dustin Johnson announced Friday he won't play in the Olympics because of fears over the Zika virus. Jordan Spieth told Derek Lawrenson for the Daily Mail on Saturday that he and his team are "still trying to figure it out" regarding whether he'll represent the U.S.

Notable withdrawals aren't limited to the United States either. Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Shane Lowry all made themselves unavailable for their respective countries.

While Olympic organizers in general want to have as many marquee stars compete as possible, that concern for golf is heightened. Following the Rio Olympics, the International Olympic Committee will begin looking into whether it continues making golf a part of the Olympic program.

TSN's Rick Westhead doesn't think the outlook is too good for the sport with so many top golfers out of this year's event:

Golf will feature at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, but its inclusion in the 2024 Olympics remains up in the air.
