Kevin Durant's Dad Nicknamed His Son 'Green Room' in High School

Vanessa de BeaumontJul 9, 2016

Before he was the "Durantula," Kevin Durant's father, Wayne Pratt, gave his son a different, perhaps even more fitting, nickname.

According to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, the high school basketball coach took to calling the future NBA All-Star "Green Room" in reference to the draft-day waiting area for lottery picks.

True to his humble nature, Durant would shy from his father's incredibly accurate mid-game cheers.

Now, however, it seems the 2014 MVP has moved on from modest evaluations of his talents. Pratt approves.

"Be selfish," Pratt advised Durant prior to his announcement on the Players' Tribune that he would join the Golden State Warriors—a decision Pratt said demonstrated "growth as a man," per Spears.

Whether KD's purported self-advancement will become evident on the court is yet to be seen, but the move certainly marked improvement for an already ultra-talented franchise.

Perhaps Papa Pratt should start calling his son "Larry O'Brien" now.
