Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Targets Eyed by Jurgen Klopp, Fresh Reds Rumours

Tom SunderlandJul 9, 2016

Liverpool are reportedly one of three clubs still in the running to sign Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho this summer, with Valencia and AS Monaco also jostling for his services. Elsewhere, the Reds are said to have ended their interest in Piotr Zielinski.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Camacho is still attracting the Merseysiders' attention as manager Jurgen Klopp is allegedly preparing "to axe 11 players in his first summer at the club" (h/t Football Insider's Harvey Byrne).

Injury delayed Camacho's start to the 2015-16 campaign, but the 26-year-old came back into the team to make 24 appearances for the Anchovies across all competitions.

Yahoo's Andrew Gaffney detailed back in May that Camacho, who has a £15 million release clause in his contract, looks likely to leave the Rosaleda in the coming months:

The one-time capped Spain international joined Malaga in 2011 from Atletico Madrid and has gone on to make 166 total appearances for the Andalusian outfit, per Transfermarkt.

The Reds could perhaps do with the renovations in their engine room, too, and it was during the UEFA Europa League final defeat to Sevilla that KICCA's Ian Stafford noted weakness at the team's core:

Klopp has already strengthened his midfield with the addition of Serbian starlet Marko Grujic, 20, but Camacho is a more rough-and-ready option who could add instant steel to his side at an affordable price.

Meanwhile, Udinese sporting director Norea Bonato has said Liverpool are no longer in the hunt for Zielinksi after being heavily linked with the player this summer, per the Mirror's Liam Corless:

"

The has been an agreement for Zielinski with Napoli for some time, but the guy took his time, as he had to play at the Euros.

Perhaps now is the right time to make his decision. Liverpool did not make a real offer, and if the English team does not come out of the closet, the boy eventually will understand the situation and will decide his future based on his offers.

"

Zielinski is now free to concentrate on his club future after returning to Udinese following his Euro 2016 commitments with Poland, but it appears a move to Anfield may no longer lie in his future.

The news comes after the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano recently reported a deal had been struck between the Reds and Zielinski, with Udinese the only party still lacking an agreement on the matter:

Bonato's claim would appear to run against that narrative, however, and Napoli could steal in to recruit the former Empoli loanee if the Merseysiders are genuinely ready to back out of an investment.

Zielinski, 22, scored five goals and recorded four assists in 35 Serie A appearances for Empoli last season, but Liverpool seemingly weren't impressed enough to spend on the attacking midfielder's signature.
