Williams vs. Kerber: Score, Highlights from Wimbledon Women's Final 2016
Serena Williams made tennis history on Saturday morning, defeating Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 in the women's final at Wimbledon to tie Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slam titles in the open era.
Williams was making her fourth attempt at tying the mark and against an opponent who denied her earlier this year in the final at the Australian Open. It's her seventh championship at the All-England Club.
The opening set was high-level tennis decided by a couple of key errors from Kerber in her final service game. Serena pounced to break serve and take a highly competitive set.
Kerber battled back hard in the second, against an opponent who has never lost a Grand Slam final after winning the first set, but just couldn't figure out a way to handle her huge first serve. She was again broken on her final service game, and Serena closed out the match with ease.
Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles is the next historic mark up for Serena, who appears just as dominant now as ever.
