Wimbledon 2016: Winners and Losers from the All-England Club
Wimbledon 2016 produced historical milestones and memorable matches.
Serena Williams and Andy Murray were the biggest winners.
Williams won her 22nd Grand Slam title to tie Steffi Graf for most Slams in the open era. She also won her 16th Grand Slam doubles title. She's won 14 with sister Venus Williams and two mixed-doubles titles with Max Mirnyi.
Andy Murray won his second Wimbledon title and third Grand Slam.
Expectations color whether a player leaves the tournament feeling like a winner or loser.
Milos Raonic lost to Murray. But he became the first Canadian man to play in a Grand Slam final. That certainly doesn't sound like a loser.
Elena Vesnina lost her semifinals match to Serena Williams 6-2, 6-0 in just 48 minutes. However, Vesnina left the tournament feeling good about her game. She will rise 25 spots in the WTA Tour rankings.
Vesnina and Raonic didn't land on the list of losers. But are they among the biggest winners?
The following are the biggest winners and losers at Wimbledon 2016.
Winner: Angelique Kerber

Angelique Kerber lost in the women's final but proved her Australian Open title was no fluke.
Kerber returns to No. 2 on Monday and put more than 1,000 points between her and No. 3 Garbine Muguruza. She's now been in two Grand Slam finals this season. Only Williams has done better. She's also No. 2 on the Road to Singapore points race. It's unquestionable that Kerber is the true No. 2.
Loser: Roger Federer

After his semifinals defeat to Milos Raonic, Roger Federer told reporters (per Wimbledon.org) that, "This one clearly hurts because I felt I could have had it. So close. It was really so, so close. It clearly hurts."
Losers: The Bryan Brothers

Mike and Bob Bryan will go down as one of the greatest doubles teams in tennis history. But their reign is over. The 16-time men's doubles champions haven't won a Grand Slam since the Australian Open in 2014.
Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram defeated the Bryan brothers in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

Winners: Williams Sisters

Going into Wimbledon, the Williams sisters were officially ranked No. 251 in doubles. Up until the French Open this year, they hadn't played doubles in a Grand Slam in almost two years.
No problem. The dynamic duo won their 14th Grand Slam title. They are an amazing 14-0 in Slam finals. Look out, Rio.
Losers: Men Behaving Badly

Viktor Troicki threw a hissy fit and Pablo Cuevas threatened to urinate out on the court. These were just two examples of men behaving badly at Wimbledon.
BBC commentator John Iverdale received some backlash from viewers after he said Nick Kyrgios, "lumbers off like a character from The Jungle Book." This is the same guy who got into trouble for suggesting that 2012 Wimbledon winner Marion Bartoli grew up hearing "you are never going to be, you know, a looker."
Winner: Women's Tennis

Meanwhile, the WTA Tour must be happy with the performance of the ladies at Wimbledon. Williams and Kerber played such a high-quality match.
Dominika Cibulkova and Agnieszka Radwanska left it all on the court in an epic three-setter in the fourth round. Venus Williams' marathon match against Daria Kasatkina had nearly as much drama.
Breakout performances from veterans Elena Vesnina and Yaroslava Shvedova demonstrated the depth of talent on the tour.
Losers: Court Assignment Officials

Venus Williams has five Wimbledon singles titles. She's an icon and future Hall of Famer. Yet she didn't get to play on Centre Court until her semifinals match. Worse, Wimbledon officials assigned the No. 7 seeded Williams to Court 18, which holds just 800 people.
Williams openly conveyed her disappointment over the court assignments for women at the tournament and questioned why top men's players weren't relegated to the outer courts as often as female players. Petra Kvitova, a two-time Slam champion, had a match moved from Court 1 to Court 18.
Federer played all of his matches on show courts.
Winners: The Beckham Boys

Fathers take their sons to sporting events all the time. But few families look as stylish as David Beckham and his sons Romeo and Cruz Beckham.
Loser: Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic lost his bid to become the first man since Rod Laver to win a calendar-year slam. Sam Querrey upset Djokovic, 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-5) in a third-round match played over two days due to rain delays.
Djokovic's apparent lack of focus was as shocking as the result.
Winner: Andy Murray

With Djokovic no longer in the tournament, all the pressure fell on Murray. He rose to the challenge, taking out Raonic 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2).
Murray is now a three-time Grand Slam champion. Murray has been in every Grand Slam final this year. With Federer on the decline and Nadal struggling with injuries, Murray cements his spot at No. 2.
Loser: Garbine Muguruza

After winning the French Open, Garbine Muguruza rose to a career-high No. 2. She also had a chance to overtake Serena Williams at No. 1. But Muguruza put on a lackluster performance and fell in the second round.
Winner: Serena Williams

Serena Williams won doubles and singles titles, tied Steffi Graf for open era Grand Slam titles and solidified her No. 1 ranking.
She had Beyonce and Jay Z in her players box. She also did a Snapchat session with Kate Middleton. It was a very good tournament for Williams.
