Arsenal Transfer News: Alexis Sanchez Offer Made by Juventus, Latest Rumours

Rory MarsdenJul 8, 2016

Arsenal have reportedly rejected out of hand a £30 million Juventus bid for Alexis Sanchez.

According to Italian outlet Tuttosport (via MailOnline's Rory O'Callaghan), Juve see Alexis as the "best available candidate" to replace the departed Alvaro Morata in their attack. But it's said Arsenal would only consider selling the Chilean if they would make a profit.

The Old Lady's opening offer for the former Barcelona man is lower than the £35 million Arsenal paid for him two years ago.

Sanchez's contract still has two years left to run, and the 27-year-old's profile has arguably risen since he moved to Arsenal, not least because he has won the Copa America with Chile twice in that time.

At this summer's Copa, he also won the award for the tournament's best player:

He has proved to be a success in the Premier League, netting 29 goals in two seasons in the English top flight and providing 12 assists, per WhoScored.com.

Along with Mesut Ozil, Sanchez is one of Arsenal's most important attacking players, and only a significantly increased bid from Juve would even tempt the Gunners into selling.

Per O'Callaghan, the only circumstances in which Arsenal might part with Alexis is if they could then fund deals for rumoured targets Alexandre Lacazette and Julian Draxler—with Olympique Lyonnais demanding "at least £42 million" for the former.

Juve would have to perhaps double their bid if they are to have any luck in snapping up Sanchez, and even then Arsenal may want to hold onto him.

Indeed, given how impressive Sanchez has been during his time at the Emirates Stadium, it would seem risky to sell him in order to fund the purchase of other players who may not work out.

Arsenal also have the funds to sign the likes of Lacazette or Draxler without selling Alexis if they feel the outlay is worth it.

Draxler is arguably the more realistic target, and the Gunners have reportedly lodged a £43 million bid for the 22-year-old Wolfsburg winger, per ESPN (via The Independent's Samuel Lovett).

The German played a key role for his national team before they were knocked out of Euro 2016 by France on Thursday and has started to make good on his enormous potential, per Bundesliga writer Stefan Bienkowski:

His performance in the first leg of Wolfsburg's UEFA Champions League quarter-final against eventual winners Real Madrid last season was outstanding and proved he can step up against the biggest clubs, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:

Given Arsenal will return to Europe's premier cup competition next season while Wolfsburg miss out, having finished down in eighth in the 2015-16 Bundesliga campaign, Draxler may be tempted by a move to the Gunners if the two clubs work out a fee.
