Langston Galloway Reportedly to Sign with Pelicans: Contract Details, Reaction

Two days after the New York Knicks rescinded Langston Galloway's $2.7 million qualifying offer, the unrestricted free-agent shooting guard reportedly agreed to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to ESPN.com's Ian Begley. 

Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops confirmed the two sides reached a deal on Wednesday and added that Galloway's contract spans two seasons, with a player option in the second year.   

The New York Post's Marc Berman explained why New Orleans was an attractive destination for the 24-year-old: 

It took Galloway some time to find his footing in the Association after he went undrafted out of Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, but he made a strong impression down the stretch of the 2014-15 campaign with the Knicks. 

In 45 appearances, including 41 starts, Galloway averaged 11.8 points, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 39.9 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from three. 

"It was a little disappointing [not being drafted]," Galloway said in January 2015, per Berman. "At the same time, I took a day off and headed back to work to try to prove I belong in this league and was going to get to the league one day. I just got to work hard and continue to prove myself and grow as a player."

This past season, Galloway averaged 7.6 points and 2.5 dimes in 24.8 minutes a night while appearing in all 82 games. However, his shooting percentages dropped to 39.3 percent from the floor and 34.4 percent from beyond the arc. 

But as Synergy Sports noted on Twitter, Galloway was able to remain impactful, as he evolved into one of the team's most reliable supplementary playmakers: 

With the Pelicans, Galloway will likely be thrust into a similar role.

New Orleans' backcourt has become increasingly crowded this offseason with the reported addition of point guard E'Twaun Moore behind starter Jrue Holiday, per the Advocate's Scott Kushner.

That said, the team had a need for a steady scoring complement who can also hold down the fort at point guard in a pinch. And considering Galloway evolved as an off-ball scorer to the tune of a 47.5 percent conversion rate on corner threes last season, he should be able to find success whether he's working with or without the rock in his hands as he heads to the Big Easy.
