WWE Battleground 2016: Superstars Who Will Shine in PPV Spotlight

Aaron BowerJul 6, 2016

With the brand split taking place just a few days before July 24's WWE Battleground pay-per-view, the spotlight will be on all the company's competitors in action as WWE heads off into its bold New Era.

Putting in strong performances at Battleground will set Superstars up for strong runs with their respective brands—all of which means increased exposure and television time.

The spotlight at Battleground will be brighter than usual as fans tune in to see the new makeup of the company.

And although it could be too much for some to handle, a handful of stars will thrive under the pressure.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass

It's been a strong start to life on the main roster for Enzo Amore and Big Cass, who seem to be picking up wins more than any other tag team at the moment.

It's obvious WWE is high on the duo, and it's possible they could lead the tag division for years to come.

They're the full package as a team, and even though their plans for Battleground are unknown, the pay-per-view should still elevate the duo.

They're scheduled to team with John Cena to take on The Club, and although it's easy to be worried about the future when teaming up with Cena, in this instance, it should do them some good.

Why? Cena will likely be on the winning team here, setting up a third meeting between him and AJ Styles, likely at SummerSlam. So it's not like Enzo and Cass are going to be on the wrong end of a result—they'll probably play their parts in a thrilling contest.

And that could eventually give us Enzo and Cass vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson—a rivalry that could be for the tag titles somewhere down the line. The expectations on Enzo and Cass' shoulders will be significant going into Battleground, given their great start on the main roster, but the duo will cope with them well.

Rusev

Rusev's victory against Titus O'Neil on Raw this past week should bring their rivalry to a conclusion, so expect a new challenger to step forward and face The Bulgarian Brute in the coming weeks.

But no matter who the challenger is, expect Rusev to retain—and do it in style.

He's looked fantastic since getting the United States Championship back around his waist, and he has looked nearly unbeatable.

It's like Rusev is being slowly built back up into a position where he once was—as WWE's most credible and realistic top heel of the future.

With Lana back by his side and his anti-American gimmick flourishing once again, it's hard to see anyone stopping Rusev in the immediate future.

So expect him to look great at Battleground once again as he puts on another convincing display as U.S. champion.

Seth Rollins

There is going to be a major spotlight on the main event at Battleground this year.

There's always pressure on the show's main bout to deliver in any form of professional wrestling, but given the circumstances surrounding Roman Reigns' suspension, all eyes will be on the WWE Championship match at the event.

And even though most people will be paying close attention to Reigns upon his return to a WWE ring, it's Seth Rollins who will take the pressure and thrive.

Rollins is a born performer, both inside the ring competing and with a microphone in his hand. Many WWE fans would have been satisfied with Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose for the title, as the two could have held up a mini-feud until Reigns returned, pushing the Triple Threat match back to SummerSlam.

But with Reigns still slated to be involved, the performance of Rollins could threaten to go under the radar, but he will be the bout's star performer.

He will be at his imperious best again as he settles back into life as an active competitor with frightening ease.

He may not win the title, but he'll put on a strong performance at Battleground.
