Real Madrid Transfer News: Toni Kroos Talks Manchester City, Bayern Rumours

Rory MarsdenJul 6, 2016

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has not ruled out a move to Manchester City but insisted he will not return to Bayern Munich.

Currently at Euro 2016 with the Germany national team, the 26-year-old has seen a number of reports linking him with a move away from Real, and while he rejected the idea of returning to the Bundesliga, a move to City could still be on the cards, per Sport Bild (via Goal's Alex Fisher).

"I ruled out quite a while ago playing for a club in Germany again and this is still the case," he said.

"We're in a tournament here where my total focus is on the semi-finals. You know that you should never rule anything out in football, but I enjoy a great deal of respect from Real," Kroos added.

Kroos moved from Bayern to Real in 2014 and became a UEFA Champions League winner for the second time at the end of last season when Los Blancos beat Atletico Madrid in the Milan final.

Under manager Rafael Benitez and successor Zinedine Zidane, he made 32 La Liga appearances in 2015-16 and played 12 out of 13 matches in Real's successful Champions League campaign, per WhoScored.com.

It is obvious why new City manager Pep Guardiola is interested in Kroos, as he is one of the best passers in world football—as he continues to prove at the Euros, per Opta:

He could be the central figure around whom Guardiola builds his new City team, and the former Barcelona manager has reportedly urged the Sky Blues to pay up to €75 million (£64.1 million) for Kroos, per ESPN (via Spanish outlet AS).

Yaya Toure has been the dominant force in the City midfield over the last few years, but his form dropped off last term, and Kroos could be the perfect man to replace the 33-year-old as the Sky Blues talisman.

Real, though, will surely fight hard to ensure Kroos does not leave the Santiago Bernabeu for City.

The Germany international's deal with the Liga giants runs until 2020, and despite not ruling out a move away from Madrid, Kroos hardly stated that he was unhappy at the club.

Under Zidane, Real have excellent prospects having just won the Champions League, and they will be challenging to defend their crown and win La Liga next season.

City, on the other hand, only scraped fourth place in the Premier League in 2015-16 and need to undergo a major renovation if they are to challenge domestically and in Europe in the coming term.

Guardiola will be a draw for Kroos as his game matches up well with the Spanish manager's methods.

However, barring a huge offer from City, it seems highly likely that Kroos will remain at Real next season.
