Georgia's On Our Mind: UGA-LSU and Other Week Five College Football Picks
With all that happened last weekend, including my own personal meltdown after seeing the crapfest the University of Memphis' football program hosted against Marshall, I am a medicore 9-8 in my picks column. I went 4-4 last weekend, the big winners being Notre Dame, LSU, Alabama, and Va. Tech.
So here we go:
Michigan State vs. Michigan
Remember before the college football season everyone was abuzz about the amount of time Rich Rod's boys were putting in for football?
After reaching No. 22 in the AP poll, all that hard work seemed to pay off. Meanwhile down in East Lansing, another year of false hope is slowly coming to be reality.
Doc's Pick: Michigan
Central Florida vs. Memphis
The opening line for this week's game with the Golden Knights-Tigers game was favoring the Golden Knights by 17 points.
And with good reason—that reason being our lame excuse of a head coach.
Doc's Pick: Central Florida
LSU at Georgia
In the marquee game in the SEC this weekend, the Bayou Bengals head to Sanford Stadium to face Joe Cox and Co. This decade, the two programs have both won SEC championships, while LSU has two national championships to gloat about in this decade.
The Bayou Bengals had to rely on the grace of God to defeat Mississippi State on the road last weekend while the Bulldogs defeated Arizona State, 20-17. But the atmosphere in between the hedges is going to be quite interesting.
Doc's Pick: Georgia
Oklahoma at Miami
With Sam Bradford out against the Hurricanes, it's hard to know whether or not the Sooners will respond to the arm of Landry Jones. Jones filled in for Bradford when the Sooners lost to BYU. However, the Hurricanes are looking to bounce back after losing in a monsoon to Va. Tech.
Doc's Pick: Oklahoma
Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt
The Rebels were plagued by the SI cover jinx against South Carolina and now they're facing a Commodores squad that has beaten the Rebels four straight times. Ouch.
Doc's Pick: Ole Miss
Washington vs. Notre Dame
Ironic that the two schools that fired Ty Willingham are facing each other after he long stepped away from the scene at both schools. Other than that, this should be a chance to let the nation guess whether or not if Washington is for real.
Doc's Pick: Notre Dame
Alabama vs. Kentucky
My friend Jeffrey Howard, an unabashed Kentucky fan, and I had lunch on Thursday afternoon, and on his status Saturday, he was wondering when basketball season started.
Apparently, with the fans camping out for Big Blue Madness, I guess it's started.
Doc's Pick: Alabama
Auburn vs. Tennessee
Last year, my friend Bradley Greer and I had a running bet that Auburn would beat Tennessee, which occured at Jordan-Hare Stadium. This year it's going to be different since Gus Malzhan's offensive wizardry is lighting up scoreboards so far and Kiffin's trying to figure out what to do with Crompton.
Doc's Pick: Auburn.
My time's up. You've been a great audience. I'm 9-8 on the season so far, hope to do better this week instead of worse. If you're a student or faculty member at CBU, listen to "Overrated" with Jeremiah Mooney and TJ Buckley on Wednesday as well as my show, "The Doc Hancock Show" weekdays beginning Monday at 3 p.m. on Pirate Radio.
