Baseball Collector Zack Hample Attends Military-Only Fort Bragg Game

Thomas DuffyJul 3, 2016

On Sunday, baseball collector Zack Hample attended the Atlanta Braves-Miami Marlins game at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the first professional contest to be played at an active military base.

This was illegal, per Drew Brooks of the Fayetteville Observer:

"

Giving the tickets away, whether or not money changes hands, could lead to some spectators being removed from the ballpark and "repercussions" for the service member who originally owned the tickets, said Eric Hill, the recreation division chief for Fort Bragg's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

If you're unfamiliar with Hample, here's what you need to know: He goes around the country chasing MLB baseballs. Like this. He also snagged Alex Rodriguez's 3,000th hit, a home run.

The $5 million temporary stadium at Fort Bragg sat 12,500 people. It’s unclear how Hample got in—but he did manage to catch 11 balls:

And when Hample decided to brag about snagging a ball, he caught the attention of the 82nd Airborne Division:

Fans were also outraged:

Hample tried to explain, but a screenshot of his supposed Tinder account could disprove his story:

There's also this tweet from June that indicates he was looking to buy a ticket (h/t Extra Mustard for the find):

Yikes.

Update from Tuesday, July 5

After receiving a lot of backlash online, Hample has issued an apology for going to the game:
