Jerome Boateng Concedes Penalty with Baffling Handball, Memes Ensue
Ryan BaileyJun 1, 2018
Jerome Boateng has been one of the standout players of Euro 2016, but the Germany star made a rather bizarre defensive decision to concede a penalty to Italy in Saturday's quarter-final.
The Bayern Munich defender was marking Giorgio Chiellini in the 78th minute when he blocked the ball with his hands in the air.
It was a clear penalty, which Italy's Leonardo Bonucci duly converted for the equaliser.
Predictably, the internet had some fun at Boateng's expense:

Fortunately for Boateng, after a 1-1 tie, Germany beat Italy in a shootout, 6-5, to move on to the semi-finals.
