The Rock Honored, Brock Lesnar Returning and Top WWE News from Week of July 2

The Doctor Chris MuellerJul 2, 2016

Let's not waste any time and get right to looking at the biggest WWE news from the past week.

Jerry Lawler's Suspension Lifted

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

We'll start off with a bit of good news this week. Jerry Lawler's suspension has been lifted following a judge's decision to dismiss all charges against Lawler stemming from an arrest on June 15, according to WWE.com.

Lawler and his fiance, Lauryn McBride, were both taken into custody after a domestic dispute involving alcohol.

WWE has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to any case related to domestic violence, but with all the charges being dismissed, Lawler is free to return to the SmackDown commentary table.

For the past couple of weeks, David Otunga has been filling in for The King on Thursdays. He did a decent job, but it will be nice for fans of Lawler to hear his voice in the background of matches again.

WWE Celebrates Independence Day

Ahead of Monday's special July 4 episode of Raw, WWE.com has released a preview hyping some big matches in hopes of combatting the usually low ratings that come along with a holiday show.

Dean Ambrose and The Miz will face each other in a non-title champion vs. champion match, Titus O'Neil will challenge Rusev for the United States title, and a huge 16-man tag match will take place.

The tag bout will be an elimination match featuring Team USA vs. Team World, so you can expect to see lots of foreign Superstars bashing America before they face their patriotic opponents.

John Cena attempting to get revenge on The Club has also been teased, as well as the return of another former SmackDown general manager trying to get their old job back.

As long as WWE continues to build the Battleground pay-per-view effectively, we should be in for a good show on Monday.

Hideo Itami Returns

After being sidelined with an injury since TakeOver: Unstoppable on May 20, 2015, Hideo Itami made his return to the ring at a live event in Winter Haven, Fla., according to Marc Middleton of Wrestling Inc.

You could easily be forgiven for not remembering Itami was even a member of the roster after such a long period of inactivity, especially since WWE has made little to no mention of him since his injury.

Now that he is back, we can expect to see him appear during the next set of TV tapings, and possibly at TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn on August 20.

One thing many are looking forward to seeing is Itami vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in a match to determine who is the best Japanese wrestler in the company.

With any luck, Itami will be one of the people brought up to the main roster during the WWE draft on July 19 so everyone in the WWE Universe will have a chance to see how talented he is.

Brock Lesnar Returning For Draft

According to The Wrestling Observer (h/t Wrestling Inc), Brock Lesnar will return to WWE on July 19 for the draft to see which brand he ends up with.

He probably won't be wrestling, to prevent any potential injury before his UFC 200 fight against Mark Hunt, but we may see him throw a few punches if someone gets in his face.

The funniest part about this is how it doesn't matter what brand Lesnar ends up with, since he practically never wrestles outside of a few PPV events every year.

However, bringing in The Beast Incarnate will help give the show a little more star power, and we might get an idea of who his next feud will be with heading toward SummerSlam.

The Rock to Receive Major Honor

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, one of the most bankable movie stars today, is set to be immortalized with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017, according to ABC7.com.

The Rock is one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world, and if you follow him on social media, you know he is also one of the busiest.

It seems like every time he is filming a new movie, he announces his upcoming participation in at least two more projects.

He is starring in Central Intelligence alongside Kevin Hart, and he will soon appear in Fast 8 and reboots of Baywatch and Jumanji.

This is a big deal for Rocky, as it not only validates all his hard work transitioning from the ring to acting, but it also makes him one of the few WWE personalities to ever receive the prestigious honor.

What do you think? Does The Rock deserve to be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
