Swimming 2016 Olympic Trials: Wednesday Live Results and Analysis
Michael Phelps has become the first American male swimmer to qualify for five Olympics after punching his ticket in the 200-meter butterfly at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday.
Phelps easily won his event final in a time of 1:55:17, one day before his 31st birthday. He became the oldest swimmer ever to win an event at the U.S. Olympic Trials and moved one step closer to cementing a legacy as arguably one of the greatest American athletes of all time.
Elsewhere, five-time Olympic medalist Missy Franklin overcame a rough run in Omaha by qualifying for the Olympics in the 200-meter freestyle, while Kevin Cordes flirted with a world record before pulling back the reins in his semifinal of the men's 200-meter breaststroke.
The trials continue through July 3.
