WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for June 30

Erik BeastonJun 28, 2016

The Miz returned to WWE television on Raw and was greeted with an Intercontinental Championship defense against Kane. Tuesday night, the company presented its SmackDown tapings in Miami, and the Hollywood A-lister would once again find himself opposite a maniac in the main event.

To make it out of The Rock's hometown in one piece, Miz would have to survive a match against the top dog in the industry, WWE champion Dean Ambrose, that was set up via this week's edition of Miz TV.

Would his wife Maryse be at ringside, ready to feign injury or provide a distraction when needed, and, more importantly, would it net the desired result?

The United States Championship took center stage Tuesday night with a No. 1 Contender's match, "The Boss" Sasha Banks was in action and The Wyatt Family looked to send a message to The New Day, kicking off the final stretch of taped SmackDowns in WWE history.

Thanks to our friends at WrestlingInc.com, we have all of the spoilers for Thursday night's explosive broadcast.

Results

  • In a Fatal 4-Way match to determine the top contender to Rusev's United States Championship, Cesaro defeated Sheamus, Apollo Crews and Alberto Del Rio. Furious over another loss in a string of them, The Celtic Warrior assaulted Cesaro after the bell. Rusev, the opportunist, hit the ring and demanded the match begin immediately.
  • United States champion Rusev defeated Cesaro to retain his title.
  • Dana Brooke defeated NXT star, and Australian export, Billie Kay.
  • WWE Intercontinental champion The Miz hosted this week's edition of Miz TV. His guest? WWE champion Dean Ambrose. The two exchanged barbs before a fight broke out. Miz was left standing, much to the chagrin of the WWE Universe.
  • The Wyatt Family's Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan squashed two unnamed local competitors, much in the same way that Enzo Amore and Big Cass did Monday night.
  • Sasha Banks defeated Summer Rae, continuing her march toward an inevitable showdown with Charlotte for the women's title.
  • WWE champion Ambrose defeated intercontinental champion The Miz in a match set up following the events from earlier in the show.

Analysis

WWE Creative was working with a limited roster Tuesday night as many of the Superstars headed to Hawaii for a series of shows on the islands. While that may be detrimental to the overall star power of this week's broadcast, it does allow Superstars such as Crews, Sheamus, Cesaro, Del Rio and Rusev to take center stage. Furthermore, the United States Championship dominates the first third of the show.

Considering how poorly handled that title has been in 2016, that is a welcome change of pace.

Another area of the roster benefiting from the lack of star power is the women's division, which is highlighted in two matches.

Sasha Banks squares off against Summer Rae, whose bout against Becky Lynch was cancelled following a confrontation with Natalya. More interestingly, though, is Dana Brooke's match against Billie Kay. Arguably one of the most underutilized stars on the NXT roster, the Aussie-born star has the opportunity to showcase her skill set, even if it does come in a glorified squash.

Ambrose vs. Miz is a fairly fresh match, a contest not nearly as overexposed as Ambrose vs. Owens or Jericho, both of which have been done to death in recent months. The characters are polar opposites and should provide some entertaining television to fans willing to tune in Thursday night.
