Rio Olympics 2016: Nike Unveils Official Team USA Medal-Podium Uniforms

Just over one month before the 2016 Summer Olympics, Nike on Tuesday unveiled the attire American medalists will wear on the podium in Rio de Janeiro.

The U.S. Olympic team tweeted photos of the sleek-looking clothing its athletes will don in August:

In addition to being on display at the Olympics, the Nike threads will also be worn by athletes at the Paralympic Games in Rio from Sept. 7-18.

Per Team USA's official website, United States Olympic Committee chief marketing officer Lisa Baird said:

The medal-stand uniforms for the 2016 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams epitomize Nike's unmatched innovation. Nike has perfectly blended strength, style and patriotism. When America's finest athletes are standing proudly on top of the podium, they will represent all Americans with a sense of style and poise.

Martin Lotti, vice president of creative for Nike Global Brand Experience, said it took "15 months of prototyping to create this bespoke and hand-crafted look. ... Athletes will look and feel their best as they celebrate this incredible achievement."

Fans can purchase the jacket at select NikeLab stores or the NikeLab and Team USA Shop websites.

At the 2012 Olympics in London, the United States led all countries in medals with 104, so this is a shrewd marketing move for Nike, which will get its gear on international television in front of hundreds of millions of people.
