Barcelona Transfer News: Neymar Contract Latest Amid PSG Talk, Blaugrana Rumours

Christopher SimpsonJun 28, 2016

Neymar's contract renewal at Barcelona is reportedly edging ever closer with the Brazilian deciding to stay at the club due to "sporting reasons," while his father has warded off interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Sport's Joaquim Piera, Neymar "is happy" at the Camp Nou, "where he wants to continue making history." His new deal will become official on July 1, putting only Lionel Messi ahead of him at the club in terms of wages.

Further, PSG had made "a huge offer, one without precedence in football," to the tune of €500 million—which included his release clause, signing on fee and wages higher than Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo—but it was rejected, and Neymar Sr. made clear "there’s no intention to leave Barcelona."

When the forward's renewal is finally confirmed, there's likely to be a sense of relief around the club due to the continuous speculation over his future and seemingly endless rumours that have followed him in recent times.

Indeed, as football journalist Rafael Hernandez noted, the club are relying on Neymar's desire to stay outweighing the big-money offers he'd enjoy elsewhere:

The 24-year-old notched 31 goals and 27 assists in all competitions last season as he helped fired Barca to a league and cup double.

As WhoScored.com reveal, his dribbling is virtually second to none:

Here are some of the skills he showcased along the way:

If Neymar were to leave, Messi and Luis Suarez's presence still provides plenty of firepower for the team to call on.

However, the Brazilian is five years younger than the pair and still has room to grow—as he showed during a slightly disappointing second half of the season. His flair and chemistry with his team-mates makes him a vital part of Barca's front three, and it's imperative they keep him.

The club could use more cover for their forwards, though, but it seems they won't be re-signing former Barca youngster Antonio Sanabria.

According to Sport's Toni Juanmarti, the 20-year-old, who spent the season on loan from Roma at Sporting Gijon, has been told by Blaugrana sporting director Robert Fernandez: "If you receive an interesting offer, accept it."

Both Fernandez and manager Luis Enrique are said to be admirers of the Paraguayan, but his capture isn't a "priority" at the moment. Instead, he is nearing a move to Tottenham Hotspur, and the English club will meet with him "this week" to finalise a deal, though Roma may demand "between €15 and €20 million" for him.

The La Masia graduate enjoyed an excellent campaign, as WhoScored.com revealed:

If he continues his development at Spurs, he may one day find a return to Barcelona is on the cards.

Sanabria clearly possesses great potential, and if he can cope with the rigours of the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino's young side will provide an excellent environment for him to meet it.
