
Ohio State Soccer Player Fikayo Idowu Dies at Age 19
Ohio State soccer player Fikayo Idowu, a two-time Buckeyes scholar-athlete award winner who had been with the team since 2014, died last Friday at the age of 19.
According to WBNS (via CBS News and the Associated Press), Idowu drowned in a lake near Columbus, Ohio, while swimming with some of his team-mates. The Buckeyes released a statement on Saturday via Facebook, confirming the news:
Per the report, the defender majored in health and rehabilitation sciences and planned on attending medical school.

Idowu was part of the Buckeyes team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2014 and finished the 2015 season as the top seed entering the Big Ten's men's soccer tournament, only to lose to defending champions Maryland in the final.
According to the Columbus Dispatch (via CBS News and the AP), the drowning took place at Apple Valley Lake in Knox County, roughly 40 miles northeast of the Ohio State campus. Per 10TV, he was rushed to Knox Community Hospital and later Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
