Manchester United Transfer News: Zlatan Ibrahimovic Medical Set, Latest Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenJun 26, 2016

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have his medical with Manchester United ahead of a free summer transfer during the first week of July.

That's according to Sky Sports' Andy Burton, who reported the veteran will sign a one-year deal with the Red Devils.

Sky Sports News HQ confirmed the report:

As shown by WhoScored.com, the 34-year-old enjoyed one of the finest seasons of his long career in 2015-16, scoring a remarkable 38 Ligue 1 goals for Les Parisiens and adding 13 assists.

Per the report, Ibrahimovic agreed to personal terms before the start of UEFA Euro 2016, but talks took longer than anticipated, meaning the move could not be made official before the start of the tournament. Sweden were knocked out before the knockout stages, failing to win a single match.

Ibrahimovic is one of the most well-travelled stars of the sport today, but it would be his first year in the Premier League. He has won domestic titles with Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan and PSG, and he worked with manager Jose Mourinho during his time with the Nerazzurri.

While he's slowly nearing the age at which most players start to think of retirement, the Swede is still capable of scoring outrageous―and lots of—goals. Here's a look at some of his highlights:

He didn't have the greatest European Championship and disappeared in the UEFA Champions League during the second half of last season, but looking at his entire 2015-16 campaign, there's little doubt Ibrahimovic is still one of the best strikers in the world.

United haven't fielded a prolific scorer of his level in a long time, and there's little doubt the iconic forward would improve the team dramatically in the short term.

Sky Sports delivered even more good news for United fans, reporting talks for Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan have reached an "advanced stage." The Armenia international is in the final year of his contract and is said to be desperate to move to Old Trafford, but so far, Dortmund have yet to grant him his wish.

It now seems a fee has been agreed, however, and his medical should take place in the near future as well:

Mkhitaryan was one of the most productive attacking midfielders in the world last season, and he was expected to play an integral part in Die Schwarzgelben's title push next year. Instead, it seems he'll power United's midfield, and with Ibrahimovic playing in front of him, the Red Devils attack is on the verge of a massive upgrade.
