Swimming 2016 Olympic Trials: Friday's Live Results and Analysis
Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte renewed their rivalry once again on Friday night at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. This time the race went to Phelps, who bested Lochte by 0.31 seconds to win the 200-meter individual medley in the featured attraction of Day 6 in Omaha.
Both swimmers will move on to Rio for their efforts, with Phelps now having qualified in two different events. Lochte made it for the first time as an individual but is also going to be on a relay team.
Phelps was the third swimmer on Friday to win a second race of these trials, having won the 200-meter butterfly on Wednesday. Lilly King followed up her women's 100-meter breaststroke win from earlier in the week by claiming the 200 breast title, while Ryan Murphy swept the men's backstroke titles after taking the 200 on Friday.
Winning the fourth event of the night was first-time Olympian Abby Weitzeil, who beat out Simone Manuel in the women's 100-meter freestyle.
Phelps also qualified for the finals of the 100-meter butterfly, which will be held Saturday.
