Galette Reportedly Will Miss 2nd Straight Season

Galette's Injury Will Impact Washington's Defensive Rebuild

The injury is a tough break for Galette, 28, who missed the entire 2015 season with an Achilles tear. He last played in 2014 for the New Orleans Saints, registering 45 tackles, 10 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Washington re-signed him this offseason to a one-year deal, hoping he could return to the form that saw him register a total of 22 sacks in 2013 and 2014. Washington could have had a dynamic duo with Ryan Kerrigan (42 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles in 2015) on the opposite edge.

Washington could be dramatically improved on defense in general, even with Galette out for the season. The team signed cornerback Josh Norman and safety David Bruton and drafted safety-linebacker hybrid Su'a Cravens and cornerback Kendall Fuller to improve the secondary.

Washington may not jump to the top of the defensive rankings next season, but it's clear the team has bolstered the roster in several key areas.

Still, losing Galette to injury once again is a major blow to the defense. Preston Smith is likely to step into a starting role in Galette's absence.
