Report: Suns Considering Knight Trade Before Season
Thursday, June 23
According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, league sources indicated that the Suns are interested in dealing either Knight or fellow guard Eric Bledsoe prior to the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
Although the 24-year-old missed 30 games due to injury last season, he was highly effective when on the court, averaging 19.6 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
Phoenix is already the third team of the Kentucky alum's young career, as he previously enjoyed stints with the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks.
He has his shortcomings, having missed 10 or more games in each of the past three seasons and having never shot better than 42.2 percent from the field in a single season. The former No. 8 overall pick is a dynamic offensive talent, though, and he still has plenty of time to grow as a player in all facets.
Knight could be expendable from Phoenix's perspective since guard Devin Booker had a strong rookie season and could pair up with Bledsoe to form the starting backcourt in 2016-17 and beyond.
Phoenix owns the No. 4 , No. 13 and No. 28 overall picks in the draft, and if it can land a quality big or wing player in a trade involving Knight, then the foundation is set for a significant influx of talent at need positions.
While Knight is oozing with potential and could develop into an All Star, he and Bledsoe are similar players. Therefore, dealing one of them to address one of the team's many needs would be a logical move for the Suns.
