Liverpool Transfer News: Joe Allen Targeted by Sevilla, Fresh Sadio Mane Rumours

Rory MarsdenJun 23, 2016

Sevilla, Swansea City and Premier League champions Leicester City are reportedly among a number of clubs eyeing a summer move for Liverpool and Wales midfielder Joe Allen.

According to Geoff Sweet in the Sun, Swansea and Sevilla are in a "tug of war" over the 26-year-old, with the Spanish side seeing him as a replacement for Ever Banega after being impressed by Allen when he faced them in the recent UEFA Europa League final.

Meanwhile, MailOnline's Laurie Whitwell reported interest from the Foxes, as well as Southampton, Stoke City, Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion.

Per Sweet, as Allen has only one year left on his contract at Liverpool and isn't a guaranteed starter, the Reds are "expected to try and cash in [on him] this summer" with Sevilla prepared to pay £10 million—he moved to Anfield from Swansea in 2012 for £15 million.

His excellent performances with Wales at Euro 2016 are only making him a more attractive target, while they may also give the Liverpool hierarchy pause if they are indeed considering selling him.

The Merseyside club provided his impressive statistics so far from the tournament as Wales advanced to the last 16 as Group B winners:

Allen may not be a guaranteed starter under manager Jurgen Klopp, but he still played a key role for Liverpool last season, making 19 Premier League appearances, and 11 in their run to the Europa League final, per WhoScored.com.

He has also been highly praised by Klopp previously, with the German manager describing him as "a great player" and "a wonderful boy," per Andy Kelly in the Liverpool Echo.

According to Matt Law in the Telegraph, "Liverpool have left it to [Klopp] to decide whether or not he wants to keep Allen."

However, clearly there are a number of suitors ready to snap Allen up should Liverpool decide to move him on, and more clubs may become interested if he continues to impress at the Euros.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly "looking at the possibility of signing Southampton's £25 million forward Sadio Mane," according to MailOnline's Ian Ladyman.

Klopp needs to bolster his attack ahead of his first full season in charge at Anfield, not least because Liverpool's £32.5 million strike signing from last summer, Christian Benteke, is something of a misfit in the German's system.

As noted by Ladyman, Liverpool have bought a number of Southampton players since 2014—Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne—and Mane "looks set to follow his former team-mates" to Anfield.

Still only 24 years old, Mane has impressed in his two seasons with Saints, netting 21 goals and providing nine assists in the Premier League playing predominantly as a No. 10 or on the right flank, per WhoScored.

Given the Senegal international's excellent pace and link-up play, he could fit well into Klopp's intricate attacking system alongside the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.
