Roman Reigns Suspended for Wellness Violation: Latest Comments and Reaction
One day after WWE announced the highly anticipated Shield Triple Threat match for Battleground on July 24 between Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, it suspended Reigns 30 days Tuesday for violating the company's talent wellness policy.
According to WWE.com, it is the three-time WWE world heavyweight champion's first wellness violation since joining the company.
Reigns released the following tweet after WWE's announcement:
The 31-year-old native of Pensacola, Florida, lost the WWE world title to Rollins on Sunday night at Money in the Bank before Ambrose successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
Reigns subsequently faced Rollins in a No. 1 contender's match Monday on Raw, but after the bout ended in a double count-out, Shane McMahon announced that all three former Shield members would vie for the title at Battleground.
Although Battleground is more than 30 days away, the suspension would leave Reigns absent from nearly the entire buildup. Keeping the Triple Threat match intact is possible, but WWE could opt for a singles match between Ambrose and Rollins instead.
That would leave the Triple Threat match between the former members of The Shield on the table for a bigger event, such as SummerSlam on Aug. 21, should WWE still decide to pursue it.
