Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade told ESPN.com:

It was uncharted water for me. It was one of those moments where it's good to overcome a fear of something. It's bigger than me showing my body off. That's not as important to me as telling a story of overcoming a fear. It hopefully gives someone confidence to really be their authentic self.

And here are some shots of D-Wade, including the cover:

It also provided a video of the Body Issue photo shoots for many of the athletes involved:

This diverse group has something for everyone: an homage to 2014 Body Issue alum Prince Fielder with Texans nose tackle Vince Wilfork; arguably the best women's basketball player in the world in Elena Delle Donne; and 56-year-old four-time Olympic diving gold medalist Greg Louganis.

Of course, there's reigning Super Bowl MVP Von Miller of the Denver Broncos, National League Cy Young Award winner Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs, former NBA Finals MVP Wade and UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

Other entrants:

  • Nathan Adrian: three-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming
  • Antonio Brown: four-time Pro Bowl receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Emma Coburn: part of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team in steeplechase
  • Courtney Conlogue: finished second on the ASP World Tour in 2015
  • Ryan Dungey: 450cc class Monster Energy Supercross champion
  • Adeline Gray: three-time world championship gold medalist in wrestling
  • Chris Mosier: duathlete and the first transgender athlete to appear in the Body Issue
  • Nzingha Prescod: won the bronze medal at the 2015 World Fencing Championships
  • Christen Press: won the 2015 World Cup with Team USA
  • April Ross: won an Olympic silver medal in beach volleyball in 2012
  • Allysa Seely: 2015 world champion paratriathlete
  • Claressa Shields: became the first U.S. woman to win boxing Olympics gold in 2012

The Body Issue first hit newsstands in 2009 and has become a must-see attraction.
