Before working his first NBA Finals game Thursday, sideline reporter Craig Sager talked to Pittsburgh Panthers running back and cancer survivor James Conner on .
Per Lauren Brill of in Cleveland, this wasn't planned. Someone happened to mention to Sager—who told HBO's Real Sports in March (h/t Sports Illustrated) that his leukemia is no longer in remission—that he has been Conner's inspiration.
So the 64-year-old veteran hopped on the phone to talk.
Conner was pumped:
"God is AMAZING. Just got the call that my body is clean of cancer!!! Been a long road but God had my back. Thanks everyone who said prayers!
