US Open 2016 Leaderboard: Friday Scores, Results and Analysis

Bleacher Report Golf StaffJun 16, 2016

Dustin Johnson used a splendid 36 holes of golf to move into a tie for the lead at the U.S. Open on Friday.

Johnson shot a 67 on Friday morning at Oakmont Country Club to finish up his first round before he went back out on course to shoot 69 on his second set of 18 holes.

The American, who finished in a tie for third in last year's U.S. Open, is level with Andrew Landry at four-under after two days of action. Landry will play his second round of golf on Saturday when the rest of the field takes to the course.

Johnson's playing partner Sergio Garcia set himself up for a charge up the leaderboard on the weekend with a second-round score of 70. The Spaniard put together a terrific par save on the ninth hole to remain two shots back of the leaders after 36 holes.

The other end of the leaderboard features a who's who of golfers in danger of missing the cut. Phil Mickelson will return to the course on Saturday morning to play two holes. The lefthander currently sits at seven-over.

The projected cut line at the moment appears to be six-over. Jason Day, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace are among the players who will attempt to make the cut during the completion of their second rounds on Saturday.

Landry and Lee Westwood, who is in second at three-under, will tee off in the early hours of Saturday morning. Shane Lowry, Bubba Watson, Danny Lee and amateur Scottie Scheffler are part of the conglomerate of players yet to start the second round.
