Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Neymar and Cristian Tello Rumours

Christopher SimpsonJun 15, 2016

Neymar has reportedly agreed a five-year deal with Barcelona, which will include a €230 million release clause.

According to Joaquim Piera of Sport, both club and player have "reached an agreement" regarding the contract, which Neymar is set to sign in July. It will keep the Brazilian at the Camp Nou until 2021, with the 24-year-old having the option of taking a sixth year.

His wages will increase "substantially," making him "the second-highest-paid player behind Lionel Messi."

Rumours linking Neymar with a move away have persisted for some time, with the MailOnline's Kieran Gill recently reporting Paris Saint-Germain were weighing up the decision to meet his £153 million buyout clause and that Manchester United are also interested.

Football journalist Rafael Hernandez reported an agreement was reached as far back as February, though:

The forward helped fire Barcelona to La Liga and Copa del Rey glory last season, providing a staggering 31 goals and 27 assists in his 49 appearances in all competitions.

His form in the latter half of the season failed to live up to the first, but he nevertheless had a successful campaign and played a key role in beating Sevilla in the Copa final.

Hernandez hailed his performance:

A player of his quality will always attract interest from other elite sides and speculation regarding their future, but it seems he will stay with the Catalan giants for the time being.

Meanwhile, Miguel Rico of Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t James Gray of the Daily Express) reported Southampton have made enquiries with Barcelona regarding Cristian Tello, who may also be a target for Liverpool.

The winger has spent the last two seasons on loan, first at FC Porto and then with Fiorentina from January, where he enjoyed a fairly successful stint in the team, racking up two goals and five assists in 15 Serie A outings.

Here are some of his highlights:

The 24-year-old La Masia graduate possesses excellent technique and dribbling ability, which could make him a useful acquisition.

While he hasn't had a bad time on loan—he accrued 10 goals and 12 assists from his 18 months in Portugal—he's not exactly set the world alight either, so a return to Barca seems unlikely at this point.

Expect him to depart the Camp Nou once again this summer.
