Johnson Fractures Hand, Expected Back for Training Camp

Tuesday, June 14

Johnson's agent, Brian Parker, said he is expected to be healthy for training camp, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Heading into his third NFL season, Johnson appeared in 10 games and started one last season with the Jets. He played all over the offensive line but mostly settled at center behind Pro Bowler Nick Mangold.

The Jets will have a little trouble with depth for as long as he's out, but this isn't much of an issue. Mangold remains one of the best in the world at what he does at age 32 and is an irreplaceable cog in the middle of the New York offensive line. Undrafted free agent Kyle Friend can also handle some of the backup center duties with Johnson out of the lineup.

While his versatility was nice to have around for the Jets, this injury may threaten Johnson's roster spot more than anything. The team brought him in from the practice squad last October. If Friend, a more natural interior lineman, can impress, perhaps he and Johnson will wind up competing for the second spot in camp.
