Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Riyad Mahrez and Samuel Chukwueze Rumours

Tom SunderlandJun 13, 2016

Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has confessed he's "flattered" to be linked with a move to Arsenal this summer amid speculation he could leave the King Power Stadium. Meanwhile, Nigerian wonderkid Samuel Chukwueze is set to reject the Gunners and move to Porto.

Mahrez spoke at a Nike event earlier this week, and when asked about Arsenal's alleged interest, he responded positively, per the Mirror's Liam Corless: “It is flattering to hear, as I said nothing is agreed, nothing is done. We will see. For the moment I have not made a decision. We will see. It is possible that I stay, it is possible that I leave. We will see.”

The Algeria international isn't the only Foxes player associated with Arsenal in recent weeks, either, after BBC Sport reported the Gunners triggered Jamie Vardy's £20 million release clause before he left for Euro 2016.

Leicester stand to make a mint on the likes of Vardy and Mahrez if they do sell, considering the latter only cost £400,000 from Le Havre in 2014, and Arsenal are attempting a smash-and-grab for both stars, as Breathe Sport poked fun at:

After failing to sign a single senior outfield player last summer, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is quickly making up for that lack of business with a supposed splurge this time around.

However, Match of the Day pundit and former Leicester City frontman Gary Lineker wasn't pleased to hear Arsenal were sniffing around Mahrez's signature as well:

The 25-year-old was voted Premier League Player of the Year for 2015-16 by the Professional Footballers' Association, and while Vardy stole a wealth of the headlines, Mahrez was the puppeteer supreme for Leicester.

This summer's poaching was perhaps to be expected given Leicester can't afford to offer the same wages as some of England's elite, but Yahoo's Andrew Gaffney suggested it would be a shame if their stars left this summer:

Both Mahrez and Vardy would go a long way to improving the attacking options Arsenal so sorely needed last season, becoming overreliant on the form of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil for stretches of the season.

Meanwhile, the president of Nigerian youngster Chukwueze's current club has confirmed the teenager is heading for Portuguese titans Porto after spurning the Gunners' advances.

According to the Daily Star's Jonathan Green, Diamond Academy figurehead Martin Apugo told African outlet All Nigeria Soccer about the 17-year-old's summer plans.

He said: "Chukwueze is going to FC Porto not Monaco. They are waiting for him to sign the papers but he couldn’t travel because he is with the Flying Eagles. We don’t know the length of contract he will sign until we get to Portugal."

Arsenal were unable to agree on a fee with Diamond Academy for Chukwueze, meaning he won't join compatriot and fellow 2015 under-17 World Cup star Kelechi Nwakali in moving to north London this summer.
