Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Paul Pogba and Fabinho Rumours

Tom SunderlandJun 13, 2016

Juventus talisman Paul Pogba has been told Barcelona are "the best club in the world" by a Blaugrana icon amid rumours he could move to the Camp Nou this summer. Meanwhile, manager Luis Enrique is reportedly chasing AS Monaco star Fabinho.

Ex-Barcelona and France veteran Eric Abidal spoke to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE this week and recommended compatriot Pogba opt for a move to the Camp Nou (h/t FourFourTwo):

"

It is no surprise that the great teams want to sign Pogba. People talk about his talent, but he is still young. He is doing very well at Juventus but he did not show his best level during his first Euro 2016 game.

He can be an interesting player for Real Madrid, but he is already a key piece for Juventus. I don't know what his dream is and he has to make his own decision, but Barca is the best club in the world.

Abidal made sure to acknowledge Spanish rivals Real Madrid as competition for the midfielder, but after winning their second successive Primera Division crown last season, he insisted Barca are the world's finest.

The former defender then used the example of Neymar—another highly sought asset who chose a move to Barca in 2013—as evidence of the Blaugrana's pulling power: "Neymar decided to join Barcelona because he wanted to join the best team in the world and win trophies."

Juve's Pogba is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe this summer.

Pogba has a plethora of options ahead of him this summer and could join just about any club willing to pay the €120 million (£95 million) valuation Juventus are said to have placed on their player.

Sky Sport Italia reported on that figure and recently said Real Madrid will discuss terms with Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, on Tuesday (h/t Alvaro de la Rosa of AS). According to Gianluca Di Marzio translator David Amoyal, Pogba will ultimately decide where his future lies:

Elsewhere, Barca are also reported to be raising their interest in Brazil right-back Fabinho, according to Di Marzio, with Manchester United and Napoli also among his suitors (h/t Dan Gibbs of the Daily Express).

However, Atletico Madrid are also in the hunt to raise some familiar competition in the hunt to sign the Brazilian, according to Di Marzio, with a bid worth €20 million (£15.8 million), per broadcaster Deji Kofi Faremi:

One-time Real Madrid loanee Fabinho could make a return to La Liga after impressing in his three years with Monaco, enjoying back-to-back season-long loans in France before joining permanently last summer.

As well as offering defensive security to the French Riviera club, the 22-year-old also provides an assured foot from the 12-yard spot, per OptaJean:

Barcelona are set to see Dani Alves leave this summer, and they could replace their stalwart with the player whom some have tipped to ultimately inherit his long-term place in the Brazil team.

Fabinho has three years remaining on his Monaco contract, and while the Ligue 1 giants will be no pushovers when it comes to negotiations, Barca's need for a new right-back may encourage them to seal the deal.
