College football Week 5.

I cannot believe we are here already. Seems like the season just started and yet we are already in week 5! Nutso. Not only that, today is the first day of October. To me, this is when the fun really begins. Here is a look at this weeks BIG games:

LSU @ Georgia- LSU survived a scare last week against Mississippi State with a dramatic goal line stand in the last minute of the game. There is no doubt they have the athletes to compete with anyone in the nation. After losing their first game to Okie State, Georgia has gone on an impressive win streak including a 2-0 start in the SEC. Look for this one to be close until the final moments of the game…perhaps even overtime.
My Pick: Georgia 24 LSU 21

Texas A&M @ Arkansas (in Arlington at the Death Star)- The Aggies are an interesting team. While their numbers show an offense who can move the ball at will, the level of competition has left a lot to be desired. Their QB Jerod Johnson has had some of the better numbers in the nation. Utah State played them tight (which is not a good thing) so we will see just how good the Aggies are against a pretty good SEC team. Arkansas is lead by their big time QB Ryan Mallett. Mallett, a Texan, will be revved up and ready to play in front of his home state crowd. Look for this one to be a shootout.
My Pick: Arkansas 45 Texas A&M 35

Oklahoma @ Miami- This game looked a lot better before the Hurricanes got pounded by Virginia Tech. It doesn’t really help either that OU might still be without Sam Bradford. Landry Jones has done a great job filling in for the returning Heisman winner, making some Sooner fans “forget” Bradford. Miami still has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, but it will be interesting to see how they react after last weeks loss. If they play mistake free football, this game will be close.
My Pick: Oklahoma 37 Miami 24

USC @ Cal- Here’s another one. USC has been unimpressive their last 2 games including their loss to Washington. Cal is coming off a loss to Oregon in which they were totally outplayed in every phase of the game. The key to this game will be the quarterback play for USC. Matt Barkley has established himself as a fan favorite and team leader. If he can keep the ball away from the Cal defense, USC should be ok. Jahvid Best leads a Cal offense that was embarrassed by Oregon. If the OL can pave the way for Best and the Cal offense, they should be able to keep pace with the Trojans.
My Pick: Cal 27 USC 23

Upset pick of the week: SMU 31 TCU 30- Call me crazy, but SMU is due for a big win.

Game No One Cares About: Portland State 37 Sacramento State 20- Mr. Do-it all Aaron Woods has another outstanding game.
