Burks Expected Back for Camp After Cleanup

Wednesday, June 8

The team's official site reported the procedures were successful. It also noted Burks should make a full recovery before the start of next season's training camp.

The 24-year-old guard is coming off his second straight injury-plagued campaign. He missed more than three months of action after undergoing surgery for a fractured left fibula in December. His 2014-15 campaign was also cut short because of a shoulder injury.

In turn, he's appeared in just 58 games over the past two seasons for Utah. It's prevented him from making the necessary progress after the 2011 first-round selection enjoyed a breakout 2013-14 season, averaging 14 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists across 78 contests.

Burks stated in April that he has no plans to change his approach despite the recent health setbacks, per Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune.

"If I change my game, I feel like I change my future. So I don't want to change," he said. "I may change a little bit, pick and choose, but I've got to play fearless. That's how I play."

Nevertheless, Ben Anderson of KFAN noted his inability to stay on the floor could impact the team's draft plans later this month:

The Jazz didn't provide an official timetable for his recovery beyond stating he'll be ready "prior" to training camp. That said, the fact he's expected back for camp suggests it was merely a minor cleanup after the more serious procedures at the end of last year.

The team will hope it allows him to enter next season at full strength. While Burks still has some untapped potential, expectations will continue to fade until he proves he can stay healthy for an extended stretch.
