Manchester United Transfer News: Andre Gomes Talks Jose Mourinho Amid Rumours
Manchester United transfer target Andre Gomes complimented Jose Mourinho's ability but claimed his focus is firmly on Portugal's upcoming Euro 2016 campaign, per Super Deporte (h/t Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC).
The Valencia midfielder initially arrived at Mestalla Stadium on a season-long loan from Portuguese club Benfica in 2014 before signing a permanent deal last year worth €15 million.
The 22-year-old impressed in his debut season with a string of fine performances but declined a bit in 2015-16 as his club stumbled to a disappointing 12th-place finish in La Liga. Ahead of this month's European Championship in France, the future of the versatile playmaker remains unresolved.

Per Corrigan, Gomes is valued at €45 million (£35 million) and shares the same representation as his compatriot Mourinho.
Jorge Mendes—renowned for his involvement in huge transfer deals, including James Rodriguez's £63 million transfer to Real Madrid and Angel Di Maria's move to United—worked with Valencia owner Peter Lim to bring him to Spain as part of an organised plan to purchase and sell on prospective talents.
However, a move to Old Trafford has been rumoured for some time. Per Alex Young of Goal, Gomes was already a target for United in April, when Louis van Gaal was at the helm.
Per Tom Kundert of PortuGoal, Gomes produced a strong performance in Portugal's recent friendly against England in a match that may have further piqued United's interest:
A quick-thinking, nimble ballplayer, Gomes has won seven caps for his country and made his senior international debut for Fernando Santos' side in a 1-0 European qualification defeat to Albania back in 2014, per Soccerway.
In addition to his talent with the ball, he's also tenacious in his defensive work, as noted by WhoScored.com:
Per Super Deporte, (h/t ESPN FC's Corrigan) Gomes hailed the United boss but was adamant his focus would not stray from the impending international competition.
"Mourinho is a great coach, no doubt about that, but at the moment I am not concerned about what will happen after the Euros," he said.
"It will be my first time at a competition of this type, and I just want to think about that now."
United are not the only club interested in signing the Benfica academy graduate, with Serie A and Coppa Italia winners Juventus also keeping tabs on the young talent, per Young.
Per WhoScored.com, Gomes scored three goals in 30 league appearances during the previous campaign in a disjointed year for Los Che, as they were represented by four managers over the course of a single season.
