Real Madrid Transfer News: James Rodriguez Exit Urged, Raphael Guerreiro Rumours

Tom SunderlandJun 6, 2016

Real Madrid misfit James Rodriguez has been urged to leave the club by former Colombia manager Hernan Gomez, who has suggested Los Merengues boss Zinedine Zidane is to blame for the player's fall. Elsewhere, Los Blancos could lose out in the hunt for Lorient left-back Raphael Guerreiro.

Gomez worked as national team coach between 2010 and 2011, and he spoke to Colombian broadcaster WIN Sports this week, hinting that Zidane is to blame for Rodriguez's lack of form (h/t FourFourTwo):

"

I'll give James some advice. It's best for him to go to another team because it's been shown that the man doesn't want to play him.

He's a world-class player and he would have to go to another team... it's a very personal concept, he's our idol and we want to see him play, but this 'boss' won't put him in. I don't like it.

Gomez left the Colombia helm in August 2011, just a month before Rodriguez made his full senior debut under coach Leonel Alvarez, but the former will have undoubtedly been aware of the youth's rise at the time.

FourFourTwo mentioned Manchester United as one of the foremost clubs linked with a move for Rodriguez in recent times following his fall down the Real Madrid pecking order, although a move could be unlikely.

Los Merengues signed the 24-year-old for a figure of €80 million following his Golden Boot-winning performances at the 2014 World Cup, but one would struggle to argue the Spaniards have seen a return on their investment.

Rodriguez made 11 appearances off the bench last season but is back enjoying good form with his national team at the 2016 Copa America, scoring in their 2-0 tournament-opening win over the United States:

The winger may not be a prominent member of Zidane's starting XI as long as Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Gomez appeared almost hurt to see his compatriot on the sidelines.

Rodriguez's form for the national team is a different matter, however, and ESPN Stats & Info illustrated he's on his way to clinching Colombian history given his current trajectory:

Meanwhile, Real are at risk of seeing Lorient's Guerreiro reject their advances in favour of a move to either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund, with the former having already held discussions with his agent, per Lluis Miguelsanz of Sport.

What's more, German newspaper Bild reported the defender has a pre-contract agreement to join Dortmund this summer, per Miguelsanz, reiterated by football writer Andrew Gibney:

The 22-year-old made 41 appearances for Lorient this past season and stood out as one of Ligue 1's most consistent full-backs, earning his place in Portugal's Euro 2016 squad.

Guerreiro can feature as a winger or on the left side of a back four, and Real can take heart in the knowledge the player reportedly "wants to play in the Spanish league," per Miguelsanz's report.
