Manchester United Transfer News: Anthony Martial Contract, Paul Pogba Rumours

Tom SunderlandJun 3, 2016

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is reportedly angling for a new £100,000-a-week contract after impressing in his maiden campaign with the club. Meanwhile, manager Jose Mourinho is said to have given the green light for a club-record move for former Red Devil Paul Pogba.

Martial currently earns £68,000 a week at Old Trafford, but the Sun's Neil Ashton reported Mourinho could soon be approached by the France international, who will "demand to break the £100,000-a-week barrier."

The 20-year-old took little time to impress after moving to the Premier League from Monaco for an initial £36 million outlay last summer, scoring 17 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions.

However impressive his maiden English campaign was, some fans may not be overjoyed to hear talk of such an inexperienced player reportedly demanding new terms already, although Ashton views the situation as a positive:

United may be pleased the player is looking to extend his deal at the Theatre of Dreams, but after only one season in the Premier League, some would agree there are other ways to show one's appreciation.

Martial was one of the few consistent bright sparks in the Red Devils attack last season, providing a forward-thinking focus in front of goal that few others could match, as illustrated by Squawka Dave:

It appears clear Martial is looking forward to working under new boss Mourinho, and Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News recently provided quotes from the Frenchman: "We know that Mourinho is a great coach, one of the best in the world."

The Old Trafford faithful would undoubtedly be happy to see Martial agree new terms at United, although Tom Coast of Sport Witness recently pondered where in attack the youngster's future lies:

A move to re-sign Pogba could have a knock-on effect with contract extensions, though, after the Sun's Phil Cadden reported the Red Devils have been told to pursue a £60 million deal to bring back their former disciple.

The 23-year-old has made great strides since leaving United for Juventus in 2012, and Bleacher Report rated him as one of the best players set to compete at Euro 2016:

According to Cadden, United are willing to pay a cash sum of £48 million plus £12 million in add-ons, and MEN's James Robson attested to Mourinho's interest being genuine:

That deal would be worth just slightly more than the current club-record £59.7 million move made for Angel Di Maria in 2014, and it appears Mourinho is serious about returning his new side to the peak of European football.

Pogba sits among that world-class bracket of players with which United have been attempting to replenish their squad, and Mourinho sees the Juve general as "the first brick" in his Old Trafford renovations.
