French Open 2016 Women's Semifinals: Live Scores and Highlights
No. 1 Serena Williams def. Kiki Bertens 7-6 (9-7), 6-4. No. 4 Garbine Muguruza def. No. 21 Samantha Stosur 6-2, 6-4
No. 1 Serena Williams and No. 4 Garbine Muguruza advanced to the 2016 French Open women's final with semifinal victories on Friday.
Williams had the more difficult task of the two as she needed just over 90 minutes to dispense of Kiki Bertens on Philippe Chatrier Court. The top seed won the first set in a tiebreak before she finished off the semifinal on her fourth match point.
The No. 1 seed in the women's draw will be going after her 22nd Grand Slam championship on Saturday against the fourth-seeded Muguruza.
Muguruza cruised to her second major championship match as she downed No. 21 Samantha Stosur 6-2, 6-4. Stosur attempted to get back into the match with a few breaks in the second set, but Muguruza was able to close it out before the Australian threatened her advantage.
Both Williams and Muguruza will play on short rest on Saturday after weather pushed back most of the tournament schedule.
