Cody Latimer Arrested: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
May 31, 2016
Denver Broncos wide receiver Cody Latimer was arrested Monday for failing to pay a traffic ticket after he was allegedly the victim of a domestic violence incident that brought the matter to the police's attention.
KUSA reported Tuesday that Latimer called the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office at 2:40 a.m. to report his girlfriend "put her hands on him."
Latimer's girlfriend, Jaimee Rando, was arrested for assault and disturbing the peace.
A deputy completed a background check on both parties, and Latimer's revealed he had an active arrest warrant stemming from a March 18, 2015 citation for "improper lighting on his vehicle/trailer" and failure to appear for an April 29 court date, per KUSA.
Latimer settled up by paying $311.50 Tuesday—after he spent time in the Arapahoe County Jail on Monday night.
Records cited by KUSA indicated Latimer paid his girlfriend's bail Tuesday afternoon. The 23-year-old missed practice Tuesday for what Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak called "personal reasons."
Latimer would release a statement on Twitter regarding the news, "I reached out to the team on Monday to let them know of a personal issue that I dealt with over the weekend. I believe I handled it the right way, but I had no idea of the unrelated unpaid traffic ticket. That's completely on me, and I took care of that today...Back to football."
Latimer was a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft but hasn't lived up to that billing, recording only eight receptions in two seasons as a pro. His opportunities have been somewhat limited, though, because of the presence of two stars in Denver's receiving corps: Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.
The arrest shouldn't harm Latimer's standing with the team. However, he will likely be expected to contribute to the reigning Super Bowl champions this season.
